Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: a debilitating condition that follows a terrifying physical or emotional event, causing the person who survived the event to feel constantly in danger and to have persistent frightening thoughts and memories related to the event. PTSD can result from childhood physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, from adult war trauma, or from a single terrifying event such as rape or the experience of a natural disaster.
